The 40-year story

Belief is what got me here.
Conviction is what keeps it going.

Forty years of work — operator, advisor, founder, author. Trades, supply chain, accounting, legal. Wins and adversity in roughly equal measure. This page is the long version of why the work looks the way it does today.

The arc

Five eras. One throughline.

  • 1985 — 1998

    First principles, first failures

The early years. Started in the field, learned the trade by doing it. Discovered that adversity is a teacher only if you keep showing up. Two things stuck: belief is contagious, and craft beats noise.

  • 1999 — 2008

    Building, scaling, breaking

First operating roles, first teams, first real losses. Learned the difference between motion and progress. Spent a decade in trades and supply chain — close to the work, close to the people doing it. Ship dates teach more than slide decks.

  • 2009 — 2018

    The advisor years

Moved into accounting and legal — adjacent industries, same problem: relationship-based work where the people doing the work are also the product. Wrote the workshop in my head years before it became a curriculum.

  • 2019 — 2024

    Adversity to opportunity

The book happened in this stretch. So did three businesses, two pivots, and a long, deliberate study of how operators actually adopt AI. Most don't. The ones who do don't talk about AI — they talk about hours back.

  • 2025 — now

    Two practices, one tagline

OnlyUp AI runs the consulting work. Speaking, the workshop, the book, and the newsletter run the second practice. Same operator, same conviction. Belief is Limitless. OnlyUp.

Why the work

The world rewards people who keep showing up after the adversity shows up.

The AI work, the speaking work, the workshop, the book — they all answer a single question. What does it take to build belief in the people you serve, and to keep that belief steady when the market doesn’t. Forty years says: it takes a lot. It also says it’s worth it.
